Well my frustration with our rural phone service has become an issue that must be dealt with.  Calling charges for instate calls of over $1.40  a minute,  constant broken connections, noise on the line,  and Verizons fradulent billing practices has motivated me to seek the high tech alternatives.  Finally decided on "Wild Blue".  At $199 for equipment, free install, and 49.95 per month it cost less than my dialup services are presently.  My present dialup survices charge 10 cent connection charge but since the connection is broken 10-15 times a day my monthly connection charges are over $30.  Also my ISP charge is $10 per month which will now be unnecessary .

Just wanted give all you aspiring entrepreneurs a heads up.  For small business getting started with a web site and setting up to do charge transactions is a daunting task that is a barrier to implementation of any plan. 

 

With what I am suggesting can be implemented in a single day at a cost of 0$.  

 

Get a gmail address (15min)

Create a Google Pages Website (1hr)

Create a page that offers something for sale. (1hr)

Create a Google Checkout Account (1hr)

Put a Google Checkout button on your page(1hr)

Put your website address in your Gmail footer. (5min)

There you are 1 day and into business.  Hint! You can do business under your own name without a DBA.

 

All these services are being offered by Google, for free, until 2008.  At that time they will start charging 2.5% also which is very reasonable. 

 

By getting all these features from Google with linked names they will cause your site to be found a lot.  Use this address for message boards , like Googlepages and Gmail users groups, which are crawled frequently with your site address included in the footer.  This will give your site prominence.   This is just one example of what can be done to gain recognition I am preparing a doc on the subject
